James,
That looks great!
A true labour of love!
Let's see who doesn't enter this month!
You have set the bar high and I think it needs to be said that from my personal experience it is disappointing that there are so many bikes on here that don't get posted for all to see, and compare.
Thanks for making the effort!

Lookin' good James, I have a question though. As much as I dig your Hawk, I struggle each time I see it because of the so many I've seen which have body damage. Are these areas paint, vinyl, etc? It's right where the fairings take damage in an off.
#7
Yep... The damage kind of haunts me too. My dad bought it from a local (to him) dealer in North Carolina in about 2002ish... The dealer had taken it in on a trade, the previous owner had hit a deer with it and it had gone down...
When i got it this really bothered me, and i really considered replacing all the plastics. I had some insurance money from when it was shipped out to me (they caused even more fairing damage with the way they strapped it down to the pallet), but i ended up using that money to do all the other things you see instead. Fairing reaplacement is about $1200, and i just couldn't justify spending that amount of money on fairings at that time.
At this point (years later) the blemishes remind me that perfection is unattainable, that i should be careful not to turn the bike into an idol and try and make it perfect. I do try and keep it clean because i feel God blessed me with it, but i need to make wise financial decisions for my family, and fairings do not fit in that category.
Maybe someday, but for now i choose to "want what i have, and not wish for things i don't have"

Well, James, at least it's something to keep the OCMD list alive. I derive a great deal of pleasure from maintaining a list of completed and to-do mods. To paraphrase, I think, kenmoore, there's always something more to do to these bikes to improve them. No true OCMD'r will ever be "done".
And thanks a lot Wolvernine, I had decided those black marks were styling and couldn't bring myself to seek out images of the left side of thedeatons ride to confirm. I was living the lie and content to do so.

My bike has tool marks from things that has been done to it, like on the braced swingarm. But I like that, shows I have worked on it. They are very small and I could polish them out but dont.
Your bike is very nicely done. I love the turn signals.

James, you've probably told us in another thread already, but where did you source all the stainless fasteners? I like the look of all the stainless contrasting with the black covers, etc. Did you make a big buy once, go piece by piece, use one of the eBay sellers or what? Any chance you compiled an itemized list of what and where?

probolt-usa.com
Give that a look.
Give that a look.

Pro-Bolt = NO. They are ridiculously expensive.
I have a guy I use. I send him a request for about 50 fasteners at a time, all measured and labeled, and he sends back good stuff.
I have a complete, itemized list of every fastener I have purchased so far. I will have to post that info up soon...

More bikes please Brethren!
Let's see some more bikes regardless of the state they are in.
This thread has been languishing for far too long.
There are heaps of regulars on here that have put countless hours and $$$ into their bikes, so show us what you got!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so show us what you look at every day!
James has set a high standard.
Wolverine,
I want your back shock, even though your bike is yellow(Red is the fastest) I think it looks "COOL" and a well sorted ride.
Come on, more bikes please.
