VTR1000f Cafe
Thought i'd post a couple photos of a bike I am currently working on, 1998 VTR1000f Superhawk cafe. Purchased this last fall as a basket case and rebuilding it a little different than when it came out of the factory.
Currently it has an aluminum tail section and tank. Still need to finish the bottom of the tank, but should have the bike up and running this summer. Here are a couple pics:
As it was brought home:
......and as the bike currently sits:
I have a ton of photos and info over on my Instagram page @Speedheathen. I try and keep the Instagram page updated as things progress.....feel free to stop by.

How much does they thing weigh.
Weight loss is a good way to improve performance.
I am currently considering my next project ( Don't worry the VTR stays ) and as here in Oz a good VTR can be had for about 2k I have been thinking about getting a good one and making something special. The work that Crux has done and the mad guy from the Netherlands has got me thinking.
After seeing these photos I think I know what I want to do, that looks great., who made the body work ?
I would throw a single side swinger, some USD with the latest brakes and just do the carbs and pipes , maybe a lightened flywheel and of course the mandatory electric water pump and I would be a happy camper !
As I don't do Instagram could you post some pics of this build ?
Cheers from down under ,
That looks great.

I'll post a few pics of the build. All aluminum work has been done by me, been doing it for a long time. This bike build kind of started while I was building another bike (1976 Benelli Sei 750)......just couldn't pass up the superhawk deal. Loaded it up in the truck and jumped into the superhawk build. Deal came with a rebuilt race motor and had to install in frame....started building an alloy tank.
Next had to start building the alloy seat and tail section.
.....more build left.....but hopefully will be completed this summer.

Not you kenmoore. You see, I'm implying the odds of Mr. CAFERACER offering a kit are just as likely as them coming over to install it on my bike.
Now, if Mr. RACER would kindly make an *** of me by replying in the affirmative, we can all get our orders in early.

I would be prepared to pay some serious $ for that kit.
Would save me buying another bike or destroying my pristine bodywork on my current VTR.
My bike is crying out for a kit like this, however here in OZ there is no one who does this sort of thing without wanting a kidney or some serious moolah.
I am serious about a kit, I just love this bike and want the best for it.
There is a company in Tasmania that does a Cafe Racer kit for the TRX850 Yamaha that has done well out of it.
If a kit the same as what I see here was available for the VTR I would be a definite starter, he'll I have done almost everything else to my bike and this bodywork would be the iceing on the cake for me.
I would go for an undertail radiator though !
Dream dream dream.

P.S
Maybe a replica early model Ducati 900ss front fairing as well just to confuse the **** out of all the Ducatisti out there.
My bike already confuses them and I love that fact.
I have nothing against Ducati, I have owned several of them as well as 3 Aprilias .
I just love the VTR !

Sorry guys.....but I won't be building any kits. Building and playing with these bikes is a hobby. Gives me a reason to get out in the garage during these long Ohio winters.
The open reverse cone megaphones are just some raw steel ones I picked up off ebay. Need to make some mid-pipes and weld them on. Still need to decide if they should be black powder coat or chrome.
I'll try and post some more photos as the bike prigresses.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh,
I thought that would be the answer.
Could you maybe supply some templates at a price?
I just love the look.
Please keep posting the pictures as you go, and what sort of material did you use for the tank and seat unit?
Cheers

A little more progress on the Superhawk. Had some mid-pipes made for the reverse cone megaphones. Next is to get them welded up.
Still need to finish a few electrical things in the tail and build the bottom of the tank, then I can start it for the first time.
......more to come

Often not a huge fan of this sort of thing or "customs" in general, but I think that's because most are not attempted by someone who actually knows what the heck they're doing That looks pretty sweet. Don't forget earplugs, it's going to sound glorious.

I have researched wire wheels and the cost is horrendous.
I have seen a set on a flat tracker VTR build.( No front discs fitted from memory )
A set of aftermarket wheels from Webike would be more cost effective and give a weight saving as well.
It would give you bragging rights though !
Any more progress on this build?
