CBR600RR Coils, my result. Total investment, $30 (for 4 CBR coils and wiring harnesses & $5 for rubber grommets), and about an hours time.

Skokie, I like the grommet thing you did. I did something similar with the top using some hose but the grommet is a better way to go.

Did you just pull the boots up over the coils? No grinding of the coils?

No grinding, I kept the CBR OEM bottom rubber bit that goes over the plug. I had to buy a bag of 25 of the grommets (Granger PN 3MRN9 OR 35489-21), so I have plenty if you pay shipping. You have to cut the "flanges" off two opposite sides of the grommet flush with the OD. I slipped off the CBR OEM top rubber "sleeve" and replace it with the trimmed grommet, and cut the rubber piece shown off the VTR plug and all fits up perfecto.

So its hard to see in your pic but you somehow kept the bottom rubber thing at the very bottom of the CBR coil? So you really stretched the VTR boot to get it around the coil (?)

Hey all,

Getting ready to tackle this mod over the weekend.. Reading though the posts I didn't see if anyone did any weatherproofing to the electrical connection on top. Any concerns about moisture at this connection? I would think the rear would be safe but the front cylinder seems like it could get wet? Also any concerns about soldering the different gauge wires? Resistance issues, heating etc... I hate when I cause problems fixing things that aren't broken. I seem to excel at this... thanks for any input.

Little bit of Dielectric silicone in the connector is all that is needed

I had a ton of arcing in heavy rain until I redid the boots. Both front and back (it was a downpour)

I think there may be another thread I put up about the diff between the 600 and 1000rr coils.

Its not as easy as it seems in the sense that you really need to make them waterproof. Even if you think you wont ride in the rain. It will lead to great unhappiness if they are not completely waterproof.

Joe as I don't doubt your observation... Im trying to understand what went wrong with yours and why it acted differently then how I did mine?

You can see pics above on how I cut up the OEM boots and installed them on the stick coils,,and it has worked perfectly in drenching rain, cold and Texas summer...
So what was different from my install on yours and what does this "re work" mean?

Sorry to continue an old thread.. But things have moved on in 10 years... The IK27 now have solid terminal nuts, and the 600RR stick coils will no longer fit them..

Any ideas what plugs will fit? Before I get my grinder out!

Sorry, my fault but these plugs wont fit the RC51 ? Didnt realise that the 1000f is different to the 1000 SP2 (Plug size)
