Choke issues

I'm a new SH owner and I'm having a bit of a issue. I have a 98 and the choke is not throttling the bike up at all. Just happend out of the blue.

Symptoms:
The bike idols fine between 1200 and 1500 rpms but when I attempt to give it has it pops and acts like it wants to cut out. I usually open the choke for a few then close it seeing as how is getting chilly. No response.

Took it for a run around the block and have lost some power. It feels and sounds like I'm taking off in 3rd gear as appose to 1st.

I'm inclined to do a complete carb rebuild but I would keep my trouble shooting simple until I have more to go on. I'm thinking my mixture may be too rich but not sure. I'm a bit of a novice and have worked some on bikes but not extensively, if anyone can help...I would appreciate it greatly. F......love this bike!!!😍

Maybe the dreaded plastic choke fittings are broken?

Sounds more like a need for carb cleaning. Idles ok but doesn't respond to throttle input frequently indicates clogged carb circuits.

A little choke or too much choke would mess it up a little, but not terribly.

Have you examined the petcock diaphrams? Do a thorough light check on it because one tiny hole can cause some extreme aggrivation to you and the motor. I would check it before ripping into the carbs.

thats actually what I plan on doing. I've seen vids on petcock rebuilds but I ordered one off line. I'm gonna swap it out tomorrow. Also, the is a slight leak coming from that one innocuous nipple on my petcock that made me nervous. I'll fill you guys in when it's swapped. Thanks.
