backfire on deceleration after new exhaust

I acquired a new to me Yoshi exhaust system - full system. Installed it over the winter and find that I have a backfire through the pipes on deceleration.
Would this be a lean condition?
Bike runs great with new pipes , good top end and midrange. just a nasty backfire when I cut the throttle/
I had the carbs pretty well set up before, and had 2 bros slip on ,
have done the TPS and pair removal stuff, long ago.
I don't recall my jetting set up right now - but I am about to go look it up again, basically it was set up per hawks carb thread.
any input appreciated - thanks

Is the exhaust system all sealed - with new crush copper manifold gaskets and if applicapple to your aftermarket system: graphite seals between the header & link pipes, and all securely clamped up?

www.vtr1000.org ? View topic - Gaskets - pipe and silencer

Also you might need to rejet for your freerer flowing system.

I agree check the system for leaks before getting into the carbs

question: best way to install header gaskets without crushing them? I did mine and it was really tight and wanted to deform the gaskets at the muffler.

yeah speaking of exhaust leaks -
found a bothched (to be nice) repair to the carbon fiber on the can , a bunch of rtv hidden under the metal strap - which of course blew out during my shakedown ride.
so - now my Yoshi's are 1" shorter but back together
also backed out mixture screw 1/2 turn- that seemed to help - still a little popping but not as bad as first run this morning. thanks
