Preliminary TeXXt 2004 ride route
Here is the proposed route for TeXXt 2004. (Texas XX Tour)
This was suggested to me by a friend and is definitely
one of the most scenic routes I've ever been on.
The scenery is very reminiscent of stuff you'd see in Alaska,
Northern Cali or Europe. To be honest, it's almost impossible
to describe with words or photos.
I saw more signs that said "watch for falling rock" and
"guard rail damage ahead" than ever before.
It's a mix of incredible ascents and descents up mountains.
(some straight up, some spiraling)
Hairy - Scary hairpin turns on the side of cliffs are common place.
Knee dragging on long stretches of decreasing radius turns and even
some offroading and going amphibious.. (well, a few hundred yards of
gravel roads and riding over washed out bridges)
You'll go from cattle land to lakeside property to incredibly
isolated valleys where the nearest gas station is 50 mi. away.
I strongly encourage anyone that lives in the area (Austin,
Fredericksburg, etc.) to take the run for yourself and see what
I mean.
There are undoubtedly other roads that could be added to this
so please feel free to contribute if you'd like. The run generally
isn't until late september.
I can send a garmin mapsource data file to anyone that wants
it. It has all of the necessary waypoints and both tracks for
TeXXt 2003 and TeXXt 2004
-----------------------------------------------------------
290 W to Fredericksburg
16 S to Medina
337 W to Camp Wood
55 N to Rock Springs (or 335 N if you can handle more knee dragging)
41 E to Mountain Home
10 E to Kerrville
16 N back to Fredericksburg
Total 415 mi.

Re: Preliminary TeXXt 2004 ride route
Pulled the map up on MapPoint and it looks like a real fun ride. 337 and 335 looks especially fun.
When you gonna ride it?
What's the condition of the road?
And you may want to look out for the State Troopers why GW is in Crawford.
