I need to add mine to the mix. Purchased a 2005 VTR1000 with Two Brothers exhaust, new tires and battery, crap chain and sprockets and a noise in the engine for $1250. In hind sight I should have paid $900 or walked.

$1500 for a '98 with almost 22K, Jardine high-mounts, dirty as hell, road sealer EVERYWHERE, but not a dent or scrape on it. Good staring point, needed tires, all fluids, plugs, lots of elbow grease, manual CCT's, rectifier, yada-yada-yada...

I paid $500 for my '98...the po's full asking price (!) Clean title, CCT mods done, RR mod done, Erion Racing exhaust, jetted about perfect, 24K miles. Ran and rode just fine on delivery , but needed rear tire , chain, and sprockets desperately.
Electives included cleaning up some very light rash on left side fairing with some light sanding and a little touch-up paint. Some general clean up and TLC, a set of fresh plugs,a new air cleaner element, fluids.....just stuff I wanted to set a baseline on for future maintenance intervals. Added a rear hugger and some frame sliders.
I might have $1000 into it , and a couple hours of sweat equity.
Talk about bang for the buck.....

I traded my 1994 vt600 shadow that I chopped. It was my first bike and first build. I traded even for a 1998 hawk that had been laid over on the right side. Busted rad, wrong grips causing the throttle to stick and busted fairings. Ive ordered the bare min to get me legal on the road. Im going to make it a streetfighter just to save money. A new gauge cluster and fork mounted headlight is cheaper than new plastics. Here's a pic of the bike I traded.
The busted superchicken pissing all over my garage. I'm going to call it supercock

'...not anymore that WAS the problem i think i've picked up another one since posting this a 01 right off good for parts $140
oh and there's 2 CBR 1100xx's as well.'
If that was the problem, why did you pick up another? Besides, an '01 model sounds a little young.

$3,000. I saw the ad (wasn't even looking for a VTR), talked to the owner at length but the thing was he lived about 130 miles from me and I couldn't get to him until the weekend. I knew if I didn't make a strong offer (sight unseen) it would get away so I offered 3k(asking 3,100). That was enough to hold it and I'm glad I got it. '98, 22k miles but absolutely flawless with the exception of paint discoloration on the right cover.

2004 SuperHawk
Hi, I'm new to the forum but have read a lot of great articles on here. I purchased a 2004 SuperHawk 3 weeks ago for $2,750. It had 13,700 miles, D&D exhaust, K&N (Arggg), jetted, with battery tender, and in near perfect condition. Since then, I replaced the chain and sprockets. Went with a 43 tooth rear and 16 front. Installed speedo healer and did the TPS mod. 2nd gear wheelie machine at 50-65 mph. Lovin my Super Chicken!

I paid too much but bike was/ is pristine except for corrosion on the engine cases and fork lowers.
Bought her 4 years ago and have spent countless $$$$ and hours on her.
Have had other bikes along the way but the VTR stays.
It's just such a great bike, much more than the sum of it's parts.
It's now a family member!

Bought mine for a grand and it was in horrible condition. The previous owner had dropped it 3 different times trying to put the kick stand down.
When I bought it was supposed to be a running bike. When I went to pick it up it was tore down and the carbs were in a box completely disassembled.
Not sure how much I have sunk into it now and I don't want to know. OMCD has grabbed hold and I can't shake it.

I thought about starting a sister thread, "How much more did you pay for your SuperHawk?", but decided most of us would be too embarrassed to say and/or too smart to put that in writing should a spouse / significant other happen to peruse this forum.
