Jebus. That's nuts. That semi driver had skills and luck on his side.

I'd say the second rider down who jumped out of the semi's path had all the luck.

My call is the second rider didnt need to go down, he panicked and grabbed to much front brake rather than look for an way out. Being on the yellow line he went down.

I would agree. Luck and skill are not the same. Luck comes after skill has failed you.

Sometimes.

I thought the same. It's rarely wise to purposely go down (If that's even what he did) But after watching a couple times, it looked like he was on a path to run over his buddy. If he laid it down to prevent that, it's not perfect, but understandable. An ugly mess, but they survived.

This happened just a short ways from me near Omro, WI and I've been in contact with the parties involved actually. The second rider down claims to have had no other option for fear of running over his buddy. I agree that is was a lucky slide and hop but he claims to have had control throughout the whole crash. Lucky for him, he had full gear on including kevlar pants and walked away with only a scuff on one palm. The first rider got pretty banged up but is out of the hospital now. The dog is....well....blown in half essentially. Not a nice picture.

Ain't that the truth.

Dog cut in half, ugly. Human run over by a semi, much uglier.

Looks like to me that the first rider was doing a stoppie when he hit the dog. Having never hit anything like that it's hard for me to judge how upset the bike would be. What I'm thinking is that the first rider would have better off not braking or trying to swerve.
